6-Week Wheel Throwing Class

Thursdays, 6–9 PM
September 10 – October 15

Reserve Your Seat Today!

Join us for a relaxed and hands-on introduction to wheel throwing in a small group setting. Attend with a friend or come by yourself ready to learn and meet other clay enthusiasts! With enrollment capped at just 6 students, you'll receive plenty of individualized guidance, demonstrations, and feedback throughout the session.

Each week will focus on core pottery techniques such as centering, pulling walls, shaping forms, trimming, and finishing, followed by dedicated practice time at the wheel. Whether you're completely new to clay or returning after some time away, this class is designed to help you build skills and confidence in a supportive, creative studio environment.

By the end of the six weeks, students will have created several functional ceramic pieces and developed a strong foundation in wheel throwing and studio practice.

Instructor: Louis Colombarini

Louis Colombarini is a Tennessee-based ceramic artist with more than 40 years of experience working in clay. He is the co-founder of Cosmic Clay Studio in DeKalb County, where he creates artwork from his home studio practice and continues to teach students ranging in age from 7 to 70.

Over the course of his career, Louis has developed a deep technical fluency across wheel throwing, handbuilding, glaze formulation, kiln building, and a wide range of firing techniques. His work spans classical, abstract, and contemporary approaches, and he is particularly known for his experimental “neo-primitive” firing processes, including sawdust-fired work that explores texture, surface, and transformation through flame.

Alongside his artistic practice, Louis has taught extensively through workshops, classes, and one-on-one instruction. His teaching is rooted in direct experience at the wheel, encouraging students to build skill through repetition, observation, and focused feedback.
