Friday Nights @ Pawpaw - Candlesticks

Practice handbuilding cute, festive, or spooky candleholders and candlesticks! For a $30 entry fee, join us for a hand-built candlestick-making party. Kids 10 and up are welcome but kids under 13 must be accompanied by an adult! All candlesticks will be bisque fired, then glazed in your choice of final color (there will be a few options you can choose from) and fired by Pawpaw staff after the event. You will need to join our email list or follow us on Instagram to be notified about when to pick up the finished piece.

This will be a fun and relaxing Friday night. BYO drinks and snacks. Come with a friend or two or just bring yourself! Please purchase tickets in advance in the SHOP section of the website, or send us a DM to let us know you’ll be coming to we can prepare enough material! Can’t wait to see you!

Pumpkin-Making Workshop

Come celebrate October with a mini pumpkin-making party!

Tuesday October 14th - 6-9pm

In just a few hours, students will handbuild the cutest fall pumpkins to decorate your tables and mantels, using our pre-made clay templates. After cutting and bending the clay into shape, learning and practicing several basic handbuilding techniques, participants will have the opportunity to paint their pumpkins with colored slips and underglases.

The class includes: All the clay and glaze and other tools you need to hand-make your own cute pumpkin! Instruction and assistance throughout the class, Pumpkin-themed refreshments during the workshop, two kiln firings and pickup coordination! You will learn beginner clay handbuilding skills, and if you have clay experience, you will get to practice and advance your handbuilding and surface decoration skills!

After the workshop, Pawpaw staff will bisque fire and then clear glaze the pieces to be picked up within a couple weeks of the event! We will get your contact info during the class to make sure you know when and how to pick up your work!

Off The Beaten Path Tour Hospitality Stop

We are thrilled to be a hospitality stop for the OFF THE BEATEN PATH Studio Tour for the second year! We will be giving out tour maps and answering questions you may have about the tour generally. There will be a slideshow where you can check out examples of work from everyone on tour. Stop in for light refreshments, fill up a water bottle from our filtered water tank, make some tea, have a chat, and please do check out our space and the artists set up here showing their work. Practice ceramic surface design on a clay tile! For a $30 entry fee, you may work on 1-2 clay tiles using colorful underglaze paints, and texturing tools to print, scratch, carve, and sculpt your own design on a tile. All ages are welcome but kids must be accompanied by an adult! All tiles will be bisque fired, then clear glazed and fired by Pawpaw staff after the event. You will need to join our email list or follow us on Instagram to be notified about when to pick up the finished piece.

Make-Your-Own Mug Workshop - Handbuilt Cozy Fall Mug Workshop

Join us for a relaxed one-day workshop for clay enthusiasts of any experience level! One of the joys of ceramics is making something useful — such as a mug that can hold cozy cups of hot tea, coffee, and hot chocolate in the coming autumn and winter and for years to come. A mug can also be a fabulous holiday gift!

Participants will learn and practice several handbuilding techniques that will allow you to make and decorate a mug. Because this is a one-day workshop, Pawpaw staff will glaze and fire your piece for you in a color of your choice to be picked up within two weeks.

Schedule:

12pm-1pm: Greetings, introductions, examples, demonstrations, Getting started

1-2:30pm: Work time with instructor assistance available!

2:30-3pm: Label and choose glaze colors, tidy up

We will send email reminders to all class participants about when they can come pick up their mugs!

The cost of this workshop includes:

  • All the clay and tools you need to make 1-2 mugs

  • Instruction and assistance

  • Glazing by Pawpaw staff

Grand Opening Party!

Art Walk! Downtown Smithville

We will have a booth this year at the Art Walk in beautiful historic Downtown Smithville! Additionally, the studio will be OPEN for visitors to check out our space over at 203 South 4th Street next to Regions Bank. We will have a fun totally free cookie decorating table open to all until we run out of supplies. Can’t wait to see you there + all the other fabulous vendors.
