Sun Face Workshop with Susan DeMay
A Two-Part Handbuilding & Glazing Workshop
April 25 & May 16 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Celebrate the arrival of spring with a special two-part ceramics workshop led by local artist Susan DeMay. In this class, students will create a decorative ceramic sun face designed to hang as wall art for the home or garden.

During the first session (April 25), students will handbuild their sun face using provided drape molds, while learning techniques for texturing, carving, and appliqué to create expressive faces and radiant sun designs.

After the pieces are bisque fired, the group will return for the second session (May 16) to glaze their work. Susan is well known for her expertise with ceramic glazes and surfaces, and she will guide students through glazing techniques to bring their sun faces to life with color and character.

About the Instructor
Susan DeMay is a respected local ceramic artist and educator who previously taught ceramics at Vanderbilt University and Cumberland University. With decades of experience as both a studio artist and teacher, her work has been widely exhibited across the Southeast and featured in national ceramics publications. She currently serves on the Crafts Commitee for the Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree and on the board of the Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour, and is known for her distinctive ceramic work and generous teaching style.
